Network Simulator FAQ

  • What media is supported by Network Simulator?

Currently only10/100 Ethernet/Fast Ethernet is supported, no other media is supported at thistime. We are planning to add support for 802.11, but we are unable to commitdate when it will become available, all depends on users demands.
  • What is maximum number of flows that I can create per NIC?

At this time you can created up to 32 flows per each Network Interface Card. Flows are only active when GUI component of Network Simulator is running.
  • Do I need to have a special NIC to run this software?

No, you don't need any special Network Interface Card. Any card that work for you with Windows (2000, XP or 2003 Server) is supported by Network Simulator driver. The driver used in Network Simulator is running on the layer that is high enough in NDIS stack so that it doesn't' care what particular NIC is being used.
  • What versions of Windows are supported by Network Simulator?

Currently network Simulator supports Windows 2000 (Professional and Server), Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server, Windows Vista
  • I'm loosing network connectivity after installing Network Simulator, what is the problem?

We have found that all the versions of Network Simulator from 0.9.120 to 0.9.123 had problem on some NIC cards with TCP offload capabilities, such that after installing Network Simulator all connectivity would be lost completely. This problem has been fixed in release 0.9.124, for all previous releases as a workaround it is possible to go to NIC card's property page under "Advanced" page and disable TCP offload capabilities and connectivity will be restored.
